The win saw Zimbabwe reasserting their dominance over the Kenyans who beat them in both legs of the same tournament after dominating them in all the matches they played since 1981.
The victory put them on a good standing ahead of the return leg of the match against Uganda next weekend. Right wing Gardner Nechironga planted two tries while Jiji, Jacques Leitao, and Danny Robertson weighed in with a try each. Flyhalf Tich Makwanya was sure footed as he converted four tries and three penalties.
Kenya replied through two tries from Dennis Mwanga and a try apiece from tight head prop Daniel Kiptoo, right wing Allan Omuka and two conversions from fullback Vincent Omuka.
Zimbabwe cemented their quest to win the second edition of the tournament as they won the opening match of the triangular Series against Uganda 25-15.
The Sables, who broke into the song “Tine Chido Chekusunungura maSables” after the match, are set to be awarded a bonus point since they managed to plant more than four tries in the match.
However, it was the performance of the Under-20 star Jiji that mesmerised the fans as he was finding the holes in the match and it came as no surprise when fans started chanting his name every time he had the ball.
It came as no surprise when he was named man of the match afterwards.
The Kenyans struggled to keep pace with Zimbabwe’s wings Nechironga and Kuda Chimwanza who were outstanding throughout the afternoon.However, the Sables have improved on their handling techniques, and ball retention, they have to improve on their defence as they struggled every time the Kenyans were on the charge.
