Mataure finds love

Standard People
BY GODWIN MUZARIThey have been seen together in the public on several occasions and they have tried to keep their relationship under wraps but StandardLife&Style can reveal that Sam Mataure and Olga Muhwati are an item.

Mataure is Oliver Mtukudzi’s band manager and drummer while Muhwati works for Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, an arts fund organisation.

StandardLife&Style spotted the couple at several events in the capital but both insisted they were just friends until being pressed to admission on Friday.

Initially Muhwati and Mataure were adamant that they did not have any intimate attachment but StandardLife&Style gathered facts to the contrary.

According to our sources, Mataure, who is in his late 40s, has never been married but has a child who is at university while Muhwati is also single.

After a protracted denial that he did not want to discuss his private life Mataure opened up on the relationship on Friday.

“Olga is my girlfriend but I do not think that such information should be made public. We have to respect each other’s privacy. Is it a crime to be in a relationship? I do not know why you are interested in that issue,” said Mataure.

“If it were an issue about music or my band, I could have freely talked about it but this is a completely private issue. However, I have nothing to hide because it is not a crime to be in love. Olga is my girlfriend and I do not have anything to hide.”

Indeed, the couple must be head over heels in love because when this writer called Muhwati a few minutes after contacting Mataure, the two were together.

Muhwati confirmed that she is in love with Mataure but she could not give any details because “her man” snatched the phone.

“Please, Godwin just leave us alone. Why are you calling Olga? This is none of your business and I don’t think what you are doing is proper,” Mataure fumed on his girlfriend’s phone.

StandardLife&Style first spotted the couple having a good time on the sidelines of Chimanimani Arts Festival early last year. This year, this writer bumped into the couple at a fast food outlet in Harare before meeting them at a number of events that surrounded the Harare Jazz Festival.

Both parties agreed that their relationship was casual, writing off any plans for marriage or settling together.
