BANCABC defending champions Dynamos bowed out of this year’s Cup after they were whacked by Motor Action during a penalty shootout at Rufaro yesterday.

Washington Arubi missed DeMbare’s final kick in sudden death. Timire Mamvura, George Magariro, Rodrick Mutuma, Murape Murape, Farai Vimisai and Augustine Mbara scored for Dynamos while Thomas Magorimbo and Guthrie Zhokinyi missed.

Themba Ndlovu, Isaac Masame, Ocean Mushure, Edmore Chitato, Gift Phiri, Reuben Machaya and Marlon Jani scored for Motor Action while Passmore Benard and Allan Gahadzikwa missed on the spot.

The two teams produced an inert performance in the first half as strikers from both sides struggled to create chances. Motor Action ended the second half nine men fighting after Kudakwashe Musharu and Tawanda Nyamande were shown red cards by referee Ronald Mwanjira.

Musharu was red carded for a late tackle on Vimisai in the 51st minute while Tawanda Nyamande was also shown a red card in the 85th minute for hitting Murape Murape with an elbow.

The expulsion of the two players ended the beauty of the game as it created tensions between the players.

There was also a dramatic moment in the 46th minute when assistant referee Alfred Zindove was struck by the ball and fell down.

Motor Action could have opened the scoring sheet in the 43rd minute after Edmore Chitato got a perfect chance but was denied by Washington Arubi’s superb block. It was a bad day for the Glamour Boys who had their strikers squandering a few chances that came and the defence creating multiple errors.
