Zim to host 2012 CAF Women Championships

  By Albert Marufu   ZIMBABWE will next year host its first ever Confederation of African Football (CAF) event after the Zifa board accepted the offer to host the eight edition of the 2012 CAF African Women’s Championships.

 

The seven-team tournament is an equivalent of the men’s Orange Africa Cup of Nations.

 

Previously, the nation has hosted the regional men and women’s Cosafa Cup and the All Africa Games. The board resolved to approach the government through the Sports and Recreation Commission in respect of securing the required government guarantees.

 

The board has also agreed to the request by Egypt to have the women’s team play a friendly match against Egypt in Egypt on November 27.

 

The board resolved to set up a team to probe the poor officiating trend currently taking place in the country in a bid to curb match-fixing with stern measures being taken again clubs and officials found to be influencing the outcome of the games. Zifa vice-president Ndumiso Gumede was appointed as the acting chairman of the Referees Committee. The board also asked the senior national team’s technical team to come up with a 2012 Afcon Campaign review outlining the strengths, shortcomings, observations and recommendations by Tuesday.

 

The board resolved that the International friendly match between the senior men Zimbabwe and South Africa, will be held at Rufaro Stadium, in the evening of November 15 2011.

 

The board resolved to meet the sole broadcaster ZBC and Premier Soccer League to discuss a possible partnership that might see matches beamed live on the screen.

 

On Asiagate, the board resolved that it will enforce the sanctions recommended by the recently unveiled ethics committee.
