The event was organised as a charity event for winners of this year’s National Journalistic and Media Awards (Njama), which were held last month.
The journalists were also joined by senior managers from Zimplats in the clean-up and paint job of Fair Home Orphange. Bishop Losheck Kufakunesu, who runs the orphanage, said he was touched by the gesture from the scribes and Zimplats, saying just a visit without the cleaning would have been sufficient.
Zimplats chief operating officer, Stanley Segula, chronicled how they had come up with Fair Home for their corporate responsibility, saying that was just the beginning of a long relationship with the orphanage. “Every day we drive past this place and we had no idea that there was an orphanage here,” he said. “The bishop told us of their problems and we decided to chip in.”
The Standard was the biggest winner at this year’s Njama awards.
