DeMbare, who are tied on 55 points with FC Platinum, lock horns with relegated Kiglon at Rufaro while the platinum miners collide with Division One-bound Shooting Stars at Gwanzura hoping to turn the tide.
The Glamour Boys are on top of the pack by virtue of a healthy goal difference of +25 against FC Platinum’s +21. In the event the boys in blue chalk a 1-0 win over Kiglon today, FC Platinum will need to win by six clear goals to wrestle the league title.
The more goals Dynamos score to win, the more goals the platinum miners need to outscore their opponents and deny DeMbare their 19th league title since the club was founded in 1963.
The football gods are crazy and maybe Dynamos will fall to their bogey side Kiglon and FC Platinum win, the miners will bag their maiden league title or vice versa.
One of the longest serving DeMbare sons, Murape Murape, said the cliffhanger ending today evokes memories of the 1983 and 1995 title fight and hope they emulate the classes.
Dynamos, who find themselves between hard and soft rock today, have been in the same predicament twice since independence. In 1983 they snatched the league title from Rio Tinto on goal difference of +36 against the Tinto’s +26.
The class of 1995 repeated the same feat, when they beat Blackpool by +54 goals against Ndochi’s +50. The two sides were tied on 58 points with one league before the season ended and Dynamos went on to beat Black Rhinos 3-1 while Blackpool also prevailed 3-1 over Tongogara.
Murape said he has a strong belief that the current class have lion hearts, just like the class of 1983 and 1995. “We have been telling each other that we cannot afford to lose at this stage. We have grafters and we need to finish the job on Sunday (today). We need to win at all costs. It has been three years and we need this title,” Murape said.

Dynamos have a strong squad for Kiglon save for captain George Magariro and Wonder Sithole who is still in the sick bay. Cuthbert Malajila will lead the side ably supported by Roderick Mutuma, Denver Mukamba and speed merchant Martin Vengesayi. Washington Arubi will guard the sticks for DeMbare and David Kutyauripo, Gift Bello and Guthrie Zhokinyi will provide cover.
Kiglon said they would bow out with pride. The Chitungwiza side has experienced players in Bernard Benesi, More Moyo and Last Chibwiro. Kiglon have a good record against Dynamos. The boys in blue have managed to beat Kiglon twice in seven meetings since joining the league in 2008.
FC Platinum will troop out with a strong squad but will miss the services of Ntokozo Tshuma through suspension. Charles Sibanda and Donald Ngoma have a big role to play this afternoon. Shooting Stars will be missing the services of James Chitereki and Levison Banda through suspension.
It’s judgement day, but Dynamos believe there will walk with the league title today. Kenny Mubaiwa, the Dynamos chairman said they have lined up a celebration gig at Mubaiwa Hotel in Zengeza 2 Chitungwiza. Top musician Sulumani Chimbetu will play at the free gig.
