BY SIMBARASHE MANHANGO All is set for this year’s Zimbabwe Youth Festival, an event slated for Decemeber 10 at the Glamis Arena. Running under the theme “Tambanuka” (express yourself), the festival is an interactive development platform aimed at building and supporting a formidable youth movement that uses the power of creativity to articulate common issues.

Since its inception, the festival has played a pivotal role in necessitating a social networking platform which various youths from several communities have used to explore their creativity and capacity in developing their talents.

Lyneth Mtemeri, the marketing and publicity manager with Children’s Performing Arts Workshop said: “The festival is designed as an experiential, entertaining and sustainable platform for the youth as well as to celebrate their own achievements, talent and role in society.

“The aim is to encourage children to appreciate and participate in Zimbabwe’s culture and traditional values thus preserving our rich cultural heritage which in the past has not been taken seriously and to give a platform to many youths who have in the past failed to get exposure to express their talents.”

The festival will feature over 20 acts, including fine, visual and performing arts. There will also be a fashion show that will feature aspiring young Zimbabwean fashion designers.

“It is with this concern in mind appropriate to highlight the need to expose our young artists since in the past they have not been given enough exposure to express their talent.

“It is our hope that by the end of the festival many participating youths would have benefited largely from this programme and more importantly gained exposure through interaction,” added Mtemeri. Tickets will be sold at the Glamis Arena on the day of the event.
