BY BRIAN NKIWANEZIFA Class One premiership assistant referee, Edgar Rameck, who was attacked before being thrown out of a moving vehicle on the Murewa highway three weeks ago, has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at his home.

Rameck was attacked while coming from officiating a league match between the now-relegated Masvingo United and Highlanders on November 8 which the former went on to win 1-0.

Rameck was admitted at Murewa Hospital for two weeks before being transferred to Musami Hospital waiting for the swollen leg and other bruises to heal before his right leg was put in a plaster. He expects to be fit before the start of the 2012 soccer season.

“A medical expert at Musami Hospital told me that I can only come back to training in February which is usually the time that the soccer season starts,” he said

Rameck said after the Masvingo/Highlanders match, they left Masvingo at around 5:30 pm and arrived in Harare at around 9:30 pm when Rameck decided to proceed to Murewa.

On arriving at the pick-up point, Rameck said a Toyota Raum which had no number plates approached them pretending to be looking for passengers travelling to Murewa. It was Rameck and his friend, who boarded the “Murewa bound” car leaving another passenger stranded as the three gentlemen who were already in the car claimed that they were going to pick up someone along the way.

When they arrived at Chisipite, the driver told the other two men to “kill” the two unsuspecting passengers with a gun. “My friend had to fight his way out leaving his jacket that had US$1 600 cash as he was from Marondera where he had sold his  stand on that day. I lost my Adidas bag that had three sets of referee’s uniforms valued at US$450 but I managed to escape with US$115 that I had in my pocket.”
