Dawson retained as Sables head coach

By Albert MarufuZIMBABWE Rugby Union (ZRU)  have retained Brandon Dawson as the head coach for the Sables in a new set-up that will also see coaches for the backs and forwards coming in.

The announcement is set to be made this afternoon at the ZRU offices. However, Dawson’s appointment is subject to him accepting the proposed contract and the assistant coaches that have been proposed by the committee.

Former team manager Noddy Kanyangarara could be on his way out depending on whether the three coaches settled for him as they are the ones who have been mandated to choose the team manager.

Though Sables committee chairman Dumi Moyo refused to reveal the identity of the three coaches, Standardsport has it on good authority that the committee has settled for Dawson and proposed a number of names for assistant coaches.

“We have concluded the coaches’ contracts and they will be announced tomorrow (today). Their contracts will be performance-based. Unfortunately, I can not divulge the three coaches whom we have settled for because we are still to agree with them. We will meet them on Monday (tomorrow) and that is only when we will be in a position to announce the coaches,” Moyo said. Moyo added that they had improved the coaches’ contracts and were also going to try to improve on player welfare.
