BY MICHAEL MADYIRAUrban grooves singer Madiz is optimistic of a bright future after staging his first show backed by a live band at Sports Diner recently.

Madiz, who joins a few other urban grooves musicians in performing with live instruments described the show as an intimate date with his fans who had patiently waited for the occasion since he expressed his desire to have a backing band a few years ago.

Revellers at Sports Dinner witnessed for the first time songs like Kazevezeve, Amina and Madam Chamunoda being performed with live instruments. He said the show gave him renewed impetus to conquer the music industry.

“Using live instruments on stage is the best way to go. Your fans will see that you are serious about your music and they will also take you seriously. Zimbabwean people appreciate you more when you play guitars on stage. People had waited for long for me to have a live band,” said Madiz.

“I also decided to do this because most promoters prefer musicians who play live instruments. The show at Sports Diner was well-attended and everyone was happy with my performance. I also feel inspired and have some new energy to take my music career to greater heights.”

Madiz said he is now expecting to stage more shows and keep his band intact.

“I am trying to book more shows and I will start by playing in Harare for a little while before I take my act to other cities. We recorded on video the show at Sports Diner so that we can take note of mistakes and try to rectify them in preparation for future shows. Right now I am looking for a percussionist to add to the band and make it established,” Madiz said.

His departure from lip synching on stage while being backed by compact discs could be inspiration to other talented urban grooves musicians to use live bands.

Most urban groovers are deterred from adopting the use of live instruments due to costs of paying the backing staff and hiring instruments.
