Uhuru trophy semis draw out

HARARE giants Dynamos and Motor Action will resume their rivalry on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the Independence Trophy at Rufaro.

The two met recently in the final of the NetOne Charity Shield, which was marred by confusion when DeMbare refused to wear a kit with the NetOne logo in front and insisted on using the one with the logo of their main sponsor, BancABC. Dynamos prevailed 2-1.

The other semi final will pit FC Platinum and Hwange at Mandava.

Independence Trophy defending champions Highlanders have not been considered for this year’s edition as they failed to finish in the top four last season.

The final will be played at the National Sports Stadium on April 18, while losing semi-finalists will meet for third and fourth position at Barbourfields on the same day.

Speaking to Standardsport yesterday, Zifa communications manager, Nicky Dhlamini-Moyo said they had set a DeMbare Motor Action semi-final with FC Platinum, set to meet Hwange at Mandava.

“We did this draw taking into consideration travelling expenses. The government has promised to sponsor the Cup at the tune of US$50 000 but we are still trying to negotiate for more,” Moyo said. — By Our STAFF
