BY OUR STAFF ONE person died while 28 others were injured yesterday when an Eagle Liner bus was involved in an accident with a train in Kadoma.Police spokesperson, Blessing Chishaka said the accident, involving the bus which was travelling from Harare to Bulawayo and a Kadoma-Harare train, happened around 4:45pm.

“Our officers are still investigating what could have happened, but preliminary investigations show that the bus driver stopped on approaching the railway level crossing, which is just before Kadoma Ranch Motel,” Chishaka said.“He then decided to take-off, but we are yet to establish what exactly happened because the train hit the rear of the bus.”

The accident is the second recorded in two days after another which left four dead and 13 others injured when a Toyota Hiace and a Lofombo bus side-swiped along Kirkman Road in Harare on Friday morning.

Police said preliminary investigations showed the driver of the bus, which was travelling to Dzivarasekwa, tried to overtake another Lofombo bus in front of an on-coming commuter omnibus resulting in the accident.

The accidents come soon after close to 150 other accidents which happened during the Independence Day holidays, leaving eight people dead.
