A lot has been happening in football circles, which has seen some clubs threatening to sever ties with their coaches.I hope and trust the CAPS United/Quelaton match in which the Green Machine registered their first win of the season was a big lesson to impatient fans.
It’s only three weeks ago that CAPS United fans pelted missiles at their coaches Sean Connor and Lloyd Chitembwe for a poor show, but on Monday they were the ones who were leading celebrations after a 1-0 victory over Quelaton.
Administrators and fans should pluck a leaf from European clubs that stick to their coaches despite strings of poor results.A very good example was seen in the English Premiership where Arsenal lost a number of its opening matches including their heaviest defeat —8-2 to rivals Manchester United, but they never thought of firing Arsene Wenger.
Blackburn Rovers sunk into relegation with their coach Steve Kean even after a poor show. CAPS United had not won or even scored a goal in open play for the past six matches. Patience pays and clubs must have faith in their coaches rather than changing them at will.
So far Quelaton have already parted ways with their head coach, youthful Thulani Sibanda. But the Quelaton executive must have taken into consideration that this is their debut season in the premiership with most of their players still trying to get used to the rigours of top-flight football.
The club should have given Sibanda enough time to adapt to this new level of football. Sibanda’s exit paved the way for Farai Sibanda, who has managed two victories since taking over the reins at the Bulawayo-based outfit but lost to CAPS United on Monday.
Wishes Shiridzinomwa of Blue Rangers was demoted with Misheck Chidzambwa bouncing back as head coach. Rangers are anchoring the 16-team log table without a single win in all the matches they have played so far.

Despite winning two trophies this season, FC Platinum’s performance in the league, coupled by an early exit in the Champions League, has not gone down well with a section of the team’s executive.

Coaches should not be taken for a ride, they should sign contracts that will see them getting their salaries even if they are sitting at home after losing their jobs.
They should desist from signing performance-related contracts as these put them under unnecessary pressure.Let’s spare a thought for our coaches. it took Sir Alex Ferguson six years to build a championship winning Manchester United team.
