Monomotapa Football Club moved into second position on the log temporarily after beating Bulawayo-based side Chicken Inn 1-0 in a Castle Lager premiership match played at Rufaro yesterday. Monomotapa got the solitary goal that made the difference just before the half-time whistle, courtesy of a penalty by Kudakwashe Musharu.

Chicken Inn rightback Jackson Moses hacked down Monomotapa midfielder Hilary Mugoniwa in the box and the referee did not hesitate to award a penalty to Monomotapa.

Musharu took the responsibility and he did not disappoint as he send Chicken Inn goalkeeper Njabulo Nyoni the wrong way.

The home team dominated both halves but they were unlucky to score just one goal.

In the first half Ronald Chitiyo struck the same upright twice on the same place first with a header then a powerful stinger in the second half. Mugoniwa was again denied by the upright in the second half.

Monomotapa dominated the midfield with the pint-sized  Chitiyo causing all sorts of problems that the Game Cocks could not contain.

Monos has now amassed a total of 33 points while Chicken Inn remains on fifth position with 29 points.

This is their second loss in a row after losing to Motor Action last week.
