With the introduction of the P-,G- and R-series, Scania now offers its customers in southern Africa the broadest choice of trucks for long-haulage operations. More cabs and a wide selection of power trains make it possible to find an ideal combination for all types of long-haulage.

Report by Own Correspondent The choice is one of the widest on the market, with more cabs, a full range of Euro three engines from 230 to 620 hp, gearboxes with 8-14 speeds including Crawler gears, automated gear changing, integrated retarder and various configurations on 2,3 and 4 axles.

In addition, chassis and axles are now strength rated which, together with Scania’s “modular manufacturing system” enables vehicles as specified by customers to meet precise tasks, optimised for maximum payload, said Grant Mudyiwa, Sales & Marketing manager for Scanlink Private Limited, the Scania Agent in Zimbabwe.

Scania engines are renowned for their economy, drivability and longevity. Economical engines and a well-matched transmission are the keys to long-term productivity.

Specifications can be tailored to suit various operating requirements; anything from high average speed without particular regard to fuel economy to ultra-economic long-haulage.

This is critical for cargo carrying operators whose concern is capacity either by weight or volume. Every long-haul vehicle must be perfectly specified for its assignment.

Even the smallest detail assumes importance because of the long distance involved. Scania believes that the driver also plays a vital role in productivity. A driver who gets good support and response from the vehicle and who enjoys his work will do a better job, improving safety, profitability and productivity in the process, added Mudyiwa.

Our Scania’s engines are modularised, sharing components with one another, although they are built in different configurations. The Euro three engine range comes in variants from 230 hp to 620 hp for long-haul vehicles. All Scania engines deliver a significant amount of torque at low engine revs, thereby providing a relaxed drive with the minimum of gear changing and maximum fuel economy.
