THE Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has been awarded 150 more voting rights by the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro).

Report by Brian Nkiwane

An official from FUZ confirmed the development to Standardsport on Thursday.

This brings FUZ’s voting rights tally to 200 after being awarded 50 last year and it will see local players voting for the Fifa, FIFPro World’s Best 11 players.

Twelve players from each premiership team will be given a chance to vote for their best 11 players with the results being announced in January next year.

“This is going to motivate players, football clubs and administrators as it has not happened before in our local football. It shows that the FUZ leadership has attracted recognition from the mother body. The confirmation of additional 150 votes arrived this week,” said the official.

The move has also brightened chances of Zimbabwe attaining full membership at the next General assembly to be held in Washington DC from October 8-12.

Zimbabwe was expected to get full membership when the FUZ leadership travelled to Tel Aviv, Israel last year after being elevated from observers’ status to candidate membership in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This membership was awarded to Morroco.

With the candidate membership, the country enjoys voting rights and participation in the general assembly.

If Zimbabwe gets full membership status, the country would join South Africa, Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon at that level.

Ivory Coast, Morocco and Botswana are candidate members to the Hoofddorp, Netherlands-based FIFPro.

Last year’s best eleven
