THE Hockey Association of Zimbabwe has named both men and women Under-21 teams to take part in the World Cup Africa qualifiers set for South Africa.

THE Hockey Association of Zimbabwe has named both men and women Under-21 teams to take part in the World Cup Africa qualifiers set for South Africa.

Report by Ranganai Dzotizei The qualifiers will run from October 13-20. South Africa, Egypt, Namibia, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana will participate.

  The teams will battle it out for the right to represent Africa at the global showpiece to be held in India next year.

  After asking for more time to assess the players, the two hockey coaches have finally come up with the final squads to do battle in the qualifiers.

  Men’s coach Fidelis Majuba is happy with the ammunition at his disposal and believes the team has what it takes to make an impression.

  The 17-member contingent will troop into camp from October 7-11 where they will play preparatory matches with club sides, as they prepare for the tournament.

  Women’s coach Edson Banda could not be reached for comment, but he has also named a strong 18-member squad with four players providing the wealth of experience at international level.

  Kelly Kaulback is the most experienced of the 18 with 10 caps for Zimbabwe.
