American stars react to Barack Obama’s election win

The Democrat beat Republican Mitt Romney, who also had support from actors, musicians and other high profile names.

As he celebrates with his family and friends, stars have taken to social media to express their reactions to the news that Obama will be president of the US for another four years.

Lady Gaga:The musician has been a vocal supporter of the Obama campaign and praised him for his stance on the legalisation of gay marriage.

She tweeted: “I JUST GOT OFF STAGE IN COLUMBIA!! CONGRATULATIONS MR. PRESIDENT @BarackObama We are so proud to be American tonight! YES!!! YES! YES!!”

Donald Trump:The business tycoon and star of the American version of The Apprentice supported Republican Mitt Romney during the campaign. After the result was announced he took to Twitter to express his upset at the outcome.

“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!

“Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble…like never before.”

Beyonce posted a picture online with a sign saying, “Take that Mitches”.

She and husband Jay-Z have supported Obama since his first election campaign in 2008. They hosted a fundraiser for him this year as well.

Rihanna:”Put one in da air for the Prez!!!! Our dear Obama!” said Rihanna.

She also retweeted a news station announcing that one of the American states, Colorado, had voted in favour of a change to the law regulating marijuana.

Canadian singer Justin Bieber was also pleased with the outcome of the US election, tweeting to near 30m followers.

“a lot of emotions right now. congrats President Obama…Im Canadian. Im good.”

Hugh Hefner: The Playboy publisher is known for having a large entourage of women.

“While I was playing dominoes with the girls, we got the news that Obama had been re-elected. We’re celebrating at the Mansion.”
