The musician says he was shocked by the level of piracy in the country after discovering pirated copies of his new album over 400 kilometres away, a day after its release.

“I released my new album, Shongwe, on November 5 in Harare. The next day I went to Chiredzi and was shocked to see pirated discs of the album being sold. It was just too much. I think we need to fight piracy harder,” he lamented.

The album is riding high but the musician says he will not receive his due reward for the album because of piracy.

‘’Zimbabwe has got talented musicians, but some of them are being forced out of the industry because they are not seeing the rewards because of piracy.”

Shumba said people had received the album well but he could not judge its performance yet.

Shumba’s new songs have been popular at live shows. The fast-rising musician has performed with established musicians on numerous occasions.

On December 29 he will share the stage with Shingisai Suluma at the Harare International Conference Centre.

Suluma, who is based in the United States, will be staging her first show in the country after two years.
