Karombo was speaking at the Ansa awards ceremony reiterating Delta’s commitment to keep on sponsoring the event. The beverages giant has been the platinum sponsor for the past four years and through their brands, they have made a huge impact on the local sports landscape.

Karombo promised to invest in rewarding talent.

“We as Delta have a promise to keep. We are honoured to be partners of this occasion and pledge to do more to uplift our sports,” he said.

Sports and Recreation Commission director general Retired Brigadier Charles Nhemachena also took that opportunity to thank Delta for retaining their confidence with their brand and paid tribute to other sponsors.

“We are indebted to Delta for this partnership which raises the profile of our sportspersons and spurs them on to greater achievements,” Nhemachena said.

“We are gratified by other sponsors like Twalumba Holdings who are coming on board. We look forward to a growing partnership as we strive to grow these awards to make them the most rewarding national event for our sportspersons.” Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Education, Sports, Arts and Culture Lazarus Dokora commended the SRC for initiating developmental programmes at grassroots level.

“The SRC should be commended for putting developmental programmes that have seen golf being introduced in rural schools, as well as equipping school teachers with things like coaching certificates. Ansa must rise and grow and I urge more sponsors to come,” he said.

He said plans were underway to induct sportspersons in the Hall of Fame which he said needed the relevant support from all stakeholders.

The event was graced by former executive secretary of the Botswana National Sports Council Kagiso Kemoeng.

He urged Government to review their support for sport as sport is an economic stimulator.

The awards saw golfer Brendan De Jong collect the prestigious Sportsperson of the Year for his exploits on the golf course where he was placed 39th on the PGA world rankings.
