Christine Ncube (51) was not asked to plead to theft charges when she appeared before magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa.

She was remanded in custody to January 22 for trial.

The court heard that on December 12 last year, the complainant, Fioner Farmer secured her jewellery in a box at her house where Ncube worked.

On December 17, she discovered that some of her jewels — comprising a pair of gold earrings, two pairs of emerald earrings and one pair of diamond earrings — were missing.

On January 10 this year, police from the minerals section who were investigating the matter interviewed Ncube. Ncube allegedly produced a number of jewels which she claimed she was given by Farmer. But it was discovered that some of the jewels were the missing ornaments. Jewels worth US$800 are all that have so far been recovered.
