The Annual Nissan Dealer Award Conference and Ceremony for 2012 was held last weekend at the Leopard Rock Hotel in Vumba.

The Nissan Dealer Awards is an event whereby Nissan Zimbabwe, the franchise custodian for Zimbabwe, facilitates an annual dealer network conference and awards evening in recognition of the top performing dealerships who were able to meet and exceed the high standards set by the Nissan brand.

The awards recognise outstanding contributions from Nissan’s dealer network and their teams, the network being; Amalgamated Motor Corporation [AMC], Amtec Motors, Clover Leaf Motors — Harare, Clover Leaf Motors — Bulawayo, Golden Stairs Garage, Croco Motors.

The weekend kicked off with a welcome cocktail event on Friday evening, which gave everyone the opportunity to catch up and share their 2012 experiences.

This was followed by the Dealer Network Conference on Saturday morning and the Dealer Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening.

The Network Conference saw a full analysis of 2012 presented to the Dealer Network and updates on the Nissan Global and Local directions for 2012 and going forward into 2013.

Special guests, Thierry Guillemot, chief operating officer of English & Portuguese-speaking Africa for CFAO Automotive, based in Paris, France and Jim Dando, general manager of export operations for the Nissan Africa Regional Office (Naro), based in Johannesburg, attended the event.

Nissan brand enjoying vehicle market share

Nissan claimed nearly 21% market share in Zimbabwe during 2012 and a position in the top two new vehicle sales brands in Zimbabwe.

This is a position the Nissan brand is familiar with as it has commanded the number one and two spots for the last 12 years in Zimbabwe.

The clear message and opinion from both foreign representatives was that Zimbabwe holds huge potential and is one of the key markets within the African Portfolio.

Nissan’s growth plan in the next couple of years is very ambitious with an anticipated market share growth of 85%.

This will be achieved not only with the introduction of new products, but also improved sales power.

The key to sales power and growth is to ensure adequate Nissan outlets to sell and service vehicles in a way that meets and exceeds customer satisfaction.

A key external factor that will contribute to this growth is the emerging middle class on the African continent, which has tripled in size during the last 30 years.

Africa’s GDP growth is forecasted to be higher than many other global trends and that, combined with finance options, will make a large contribution to automotive sales in African and Zimbabwe.

The awards ceremony was greeted with much anticipation and excitement. Achievement and recognition is a very important motivational tool to perform better as the Nissan brand moves forward.

The Nissan Dealer Awards focus on reaching and exceeding targets, standards and customer satisfaction expectations. Nine awards were presented, recognising exceptional performance in all aspects of the business.
