The tournament will run from March 28-31st in Warri, Nigeria. Muringani, who was appointed last weekend, will lead 11 athletes – 4 girls and 7 boys – and they will be leaving the county on Tuesday.

The tournament will give the country a chance to prepare for International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) World Youth Championships that has been set from 10-14 July in Donetsk, Ukraine. Muringani told Standardsport this week that he was confident of getting medals in the West African country.

‘’We will be using this tournament to prepare for the World Youth Championships and Olympic Youth Games set for China next year. This is the first time to be at the championships so we will not be under pressure. The team is made up of top youth sprinters and jumpers,’’ he said.

‘’Since it will be the inaugural tournament, there is also need to set the pace for the next teams by doing our best and of course trying to win some medals,’’ he said.

The team will also be accompanied by the director talent identification and development Phakamile Lisimati. Team Zimbabwe
