The championships, which will involve athletes under the ages of 14 and under 17, run from May 3 to 4 in Harare.

Six countries have already confirmed participation and they are Namibia, Lesotho, Zambia, South Africa, Botswana and the hosts Zimbabwe.

National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) president Tendai Tagara expressed confidence in the team’s chances of doing well at the event.

‘’We are expecting both boys and girls teams to troop into camp on Sunday [today]. The boys will be camping at Prince Edward whilst the girls will be at Queen Elizabeth. They will be in the camp until the 5th of next month,’’ he said.

“l’m very confident that we are going to do well because of [our] home advantage. We have selected the best athletes who excelled at both National Association of Primary Schools Heads (Naph) and National Association of Secondary Schools Heads (Nash)provincial championships,’’ he added.

(Naaz) director of coaching and talent identification and development Phakamile Lisimati is the Zimbabwean team’s head coach.
