Bulawayo is set for a twinning arrangement with the Indonesian city of Walikota Tangerang Selatan in a move envisaged to attract investment to the city.

The Indonesian mayor of the city, Airin Rachmi Dicny Shmh, is expected in Bulawayo this week for discussions on the possible twinning.
According to latest council minutes, the Indonesian Embassy initiated discussions for the twinning during a recent visit to that country by a delegation of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce led by chairperson, Ntombenhle Moyo.
Council said while in Indonesia, the Zimbabwean delegation had been shown goods produced by the Asian country’s home industries.
“They had expressed a wish for the Indonesians to partner with our local industries during their visit in April 2013. The Indonesians were prepared to train our Bulawayo Industry SMEs,” read the minutes. “It also turned out that the Mayor of Walikota Tangerang Selatan would be visiting Zimbabwe in April 2013 as their country would be participating at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair 2013.”
The BCC said in view of this, the Indonesia Embassy in Harare had requested for a formal invitation for Walikota Tangerang Selatan to visit Bulawayo in order to talk about possible twinning of the two cities.
Bulawayo mayor, Thaba Moyo last week said the country’s second city “stands to benefit a lot from such twinning arrangements.” He said this would help efforts to re-industrialise the city.
