Alexio Kawara is anxiously looking forward to sharing the stage with South African diva Lira, who performs at 7Arts Theatre in Avondale on June 7.

The Shaina hit-maker is fast becoming a “ladies man” following various collaborations and stage performances with female artists.
On two occasions, he shared the stage with South Africa’s Zahara whose last tour of the country was in March this year.
Recently, Kawara collaborated with Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Hifa).
Katomeni-Mbofana will be part of the June 7 gig and is likely to rekindle her Hifa affair with Kawara at 7Arts Theatre.
Speaking about the upcoming show, Kawara said it would be a learning experience and a platform to strengthen his relations with international artists.
“I have heard that Lira is a good performer and those who attended her show in Harare two years ago said it was a good outing,” said Kawara.

“I did not know much about her music but I have been listening to her for about two weeks now. She is a good singer and I hope we will create a good working relationship when we meet.
“I now have a promising professional relationship with Zahara and I hope it will be the same story with Lira. Having links with regional and international musicians is always good for the development of our careers.”
Lira was born Lerato Molapo in the Daveyton township in Johannesburg’s East Rand. She is a multi-platinum selling and a seven-time South African Music Award winner.
She grew up listening to Miriam Makeba, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone who would eventually inspire her own songwriting. She began performing live at the age of 16, singing both cover versions and self-penned songs.
In 2000 she was discovered by musician and producer Arthur Mafokate, who signed her to his record label, 999 Music, and helped with the release of her debut album, All My Love (2003).
The album earned her accolades at the Metro FM Awards, South African Music Awards and Channel O Reel Music Awards and spurred her to successive achievements and popularity she now enjoys.
