DENMARK-based Warriors midfielder Quincy Antipas has been ruled out of next month’s World Cup qualifier against Egypt due to an injury.
REPORT BY MICHAEL MADYIRA
The Warriors play Egypt at the National Sports Stadium on June 9. Antipas is expected to undergo surgery in Denmark this week on his shin bone which has been nagging him for the better part of the just-ended Danish Superliga season.
The 29-year-old has been in action for his club Brondby while injured but has been taking painkillers to ease the pain.
The club survived relegation last Monday following a 1-0 win over Horsens. A defeat would have condemned them to relegation.
Warriors coach Klaus-Dieter Pagels said they could not risk Antipas by using him while injured.
“Obviously we would have wanted him to play but his shin has been giving him problems for a while now and he has been playing with the help of painkillers. We cannot risk him. We are going to let him rest during this off-season period to allow him to fully recover,” said Pagels.
Antipas has not taken part in the four matches that Pagels has been in charge of since being appointed the Warriors coach so far.
