It is widely believed Kim Kardashian launched herself into Hollywood limelight after a sex tape with William Ray Norwood Jr aka Ray J was leaked in 2007.

She sued Vivid Entertainment who had released the video four years after it was recorded but eventually settled for an out of court settlement pocketing a staggering US$5 million.

Not much was known of Kim before the sex tape and interestingly, she has been strutting on the red carpets of Hollywood ever since.

Back home, a similar character is Pokello Nare, a socialite who was virtually unknown in Zimbabwe except by her peers, until a sex tape of her and singer Desmond “Stunner” Chideme was leaked onto the streets.

Various theories concerning the video have been peddled but what has remained a fact is that Pokello is now equally if not more popular than many local celebrities.

Her popularity earned her a place in Big Brother Africa The Chase show.

Now, the sex tape has been unleashed once again and it went viral on social networks last week attracting the attention of Big Brother viewers in the region and beyond.

The fact that her sex tape was leaked and reported in a local daily tabloid almost two years ago and and disappeared from the streets only to be released again when she entered the Big Brother house alone raises eyebrows.

Who published it and why now?

One of the most logical reasons could be that this is a most strategic time to garner support for the socialite.

Even her actions in the house seem to be pointing that direction with her famous booty dances that have attracted significant attention from viewers across the continent.

The first two weeks of the game have been a mixture of responses from the viewers of the game concerning Pokello’s involvement.

While some created Facebook accounts in support of her others have done exactly the opposite calling for her expulsion from the game.

A page against Pokello by the name “Bring Pornello Home” labels her a porn star who should not be in the house and encourages people to vote her out.

It is clear that Pokello has now attracted attention through the sextape making rounds in the region and internationally.

Could this attention help her get the popularity she needs to clinch the $300 000 cash prize?

When the sextape went viral last week, Pokello attracted viewers attention if the comments about her are anything to go by.

A number of her local supporters believe she can bring the money home.

“The sextape has made her popular. The issue of morality is hardly considered in Big Brother. She now has followers and she can make it,” wrote Vitalis Katsigwa on the Facebook page.

Another commentator Stanford Chitindingu said there was nothing wrong with Pokello’s sextape.

“Guys a lot of people have sex (and) it doesn’t make them bad people. It was only a mistake the tape got into the wrong hands let’s not judge [others] some of us we do worse.”

A comment against Pokello went: “She is a disgrace to our country and we should not be represented by such people. Wendall Parsons never got controversial to win the show, why should we support immorality.”

Meanwhile it remains to be seen if the other Zimbabwe representative Hakeem will survive eviction and remain in the house this week. If Hakeem returns home, all hope will be on Pokello.
