The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has said it is investigating cases where some police officers who were supposed to vote yesterday – after having failed to cast their ballots on the special vote of July 14 and 15 – found their names crossed out when they tried to vote. Zec chairperson Justice Rita Makarau told journalists that the commission was however unable to resolve that problem.

“We are investigating cases in which such officers didn’t vote because the register indicated they voted because their names were crossed out,” she said.

She said voters who had been turned away in the morning because their registration slips did not indicate the wards in which they were supposed to vote should go back to the polling stations and cast their ballots.

Their names would be listed in a separate register, she said.
