The tournament, in which Zimbabwe is caged in the same pool as Kenya, Madagascar and Namibia, runs from August 26 to 31.

“We definitely have to qualify for the JWRT finals to be held in Hong Kong and a win in the first game against Kenya will guarantee that. Kenya will be very difficult as they have hired a South African trainer,” he said.

“However, our preparations have gone smoothly and we will be resuming camp tomorrow until Friday.”

Zimbabwe has been hit by massive withdrawals due to academic studies, notably that of Brandon Mandivenga of Peterhouse who was one of the star performers at the 2013 Craven Week tournament. However, the brand’s chairperson Aaron Jani said he hopes that the withdrawals will not impact on the team’s performance as was the case last year.

“Last year we failed to qualify for the finals because we could not have all the best players and it is the same situation this year. However, I think we have a stronger team this year,” he said.
