Organised by Shamiso Catherine Ruzvidzo of Cathrine Ruze, the fashion weekend’s inaugural gala will be held on November 2 at Borrowdale Racecourse’s Glasshouse. According to the organiser, Fashion Weekend Zimbabwe is aiming to bring Zimbabwean Fashion to new heights.

“We want to ensure we start to make our mark again on the international fashion stage, promoting our industry, while ensuring effective skills mentorship and resource building is our key focus,” she said.

“We want to reignite this industry locally and ensure it is a relevant and profit generating market as it once was.”

She said the event would also include musical shows and food markets.

Through a designer programme, the Fashion Weekend Team is providing young talent with an opportunity to launch their careers.

The programme includes skills development and structured mentorship under the guidance of Fashion Weekend trained mentors promoting the “Made in Zimbabwe Concept”.

On the list of young designers are Samantha Rumbidzai Dika, Nyasha Clesby Nhutsve, Samantha Matemadombo, Nyasha Kagoro and Edmond Chikumbirike.

At an event held at the Glasshouse last week, Ruzvidzo paid tribute to sponsors and partners like the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe and the European Union who managed to provide allowances for the designers, among others.

The winner of this year’s edition will take home over US$3 000 worth of packages and training to launch his or her career.
