THE Zimbabwe Boxing Board of Control (ZBBC) has cancelled the WBU Bantamweight world title bout pitting Zimbabwe’s Tapiwa Tembo and Zambia’s Gibon Kamota

THE Zimbabwe Boxing Board of Control (ZBBC) has cancelled the WBU Bantamweight world title bout pitting Zimbabwe’s Tapiwa Tembo and Zambia’s Gibon Kamota after promoters — Deltaforce Boxing Promotions — failed to comply with the rules. The latest development further compounds the situation for the financially troubled bout that had been set for next weekend at Harare’s City Sports Centre.

“The board held a meeting last night [Friday] and decided to cancel the bout because the promoter failed to give the board proof that he can host the event by October 4. He also failed to bring contracts that were signed between the boxers and the promoter,” said an official from the boxing board.

“We also did not get the boxers’ results from HIV and hepatitis B tests as is required by the law and to make matters worse, of all the boxers billed for the fight, only one Tapiwa Tembo is registered with the board.”

ZBBC also said that from the original list of boxers sanctioned by World Boxing Union to fight for the belt there is Monalisa Sibanda, Wesley Mcdade and Felix Vengai, but Deltaforce Promotions brought a whole new cast of boxers.
