The graduation was the first in Ward 15, almost 90 km east of Mpandawana Growth Point in Masvingo Province.

Organised by the school’s infant department, the ceremony was a culmination of hard work and perseverance in the face of numerous challenges that confronted the rural learning institution.

Despite challenges brought by the ECD programme, staff at Munyikwa Primary School, led by headmaster Lovemore Guvava, soldiered on, leading to the colourful graduation ceremony that was witnessed by scores of parents, villagers and teachers from other schools.

Heads of nearby schools accompanied by their School Development Committees (SDCs) and councillors, were also present to witness the first graduands receive their caps and certificates.

Guest of honour Piniel Machimbira — who stressed that the ECD was a pioneer project in Gutu — praised the school for resilience in the face of challenges. Although the community managed to build the ECD block, it could not afford to pay for the teachers.

Machimbiri implored influential people in the community to seek for donations of any kind for the school.

Guvava said the school would continue to fulfill the government policy.

“We are all witnessing the graduation of ECD children today. We want to thank parents whose children report in uniforms, with all required school stationery and school fees on the opening day,” said the headmaster.
