Dynamos’ long search for a striker is about to end with the emergence of Cameroon-born striker Joseph Aboueme who is close to completing a move to the champions from Ethiopian giants St George.

Hard-pressed to beat Wednesday’s CAF Champions League late registration deadline, Dynamos are also considering an unnamed Portuguese forward.

Our sister paper NewsDay  last week revealed that Dynamos were targeting a Portuguese striker who like Aboueme is expected in the country tomorrow or at the latest on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Portuguese will arrive in the company of his agent Mario Teixeira as a free agent, a status Aboueme also shares.

DeMbare would be looking at winding up talks with the frontmen and club chairman Keni Mubaiwa has indicated they could sign both of them if amicable agreements are arrived at.

“We want one striker but we can rope in both of them if we reach common ground on everything,” said Mubaiwa.

“We are not just taking anyone just for the sake of signing a striker. We need a player with requisite experience, someone who can take us far in view of our Champions League campaign where experience is crucial.

“Players have to meet certain standards. Remember we set ourselves high standards in the past three seasons where we won the local league, so we have to maintain that or do more.”

Aboueme boasts of that experience — though limited to some extent — having taken part in the 2012 CAF Confederations Cup with St George.

The heavily-built 27-year-old has also had a stint in Angola with Sporting Clube Petroleos de Cabinda as well as two spells with Unisport de Bafang in his native Cameroon.

He also played for Cameroonian giants Canon de Yaoundé between 2005 and 2007 and coach Kalisto Pasuwa’s assistants have already analysed video footage of the player.

The club’s strikers failed to reach double figures last season with chief marksmen Washington Pakamisa, who scored a total of nine goals melting under relentless pressure to deliver from fans.

Pakamisa, Simba Sithole and Patrick Khumbula are the only strikers that have been registered with CAF so far.

Mubaiwa decried the lack of ample time for the players to train together before the Champions League opener due to the participation in the Chan tournament of seven of their players.

“Our biggest worry is the absence of our internationals because they will only train with the rest of the squad a few days before we play our first Champions League match,” he said.
