Chibwe, who was featured in The Standard last week, said from his base in the Lowveld town on Thursday that he was not associated in any way with the Nigerian prophet.

He stressed that Prophet TB Joshua was not his Godfather and that he had never anointed him.

Chibwe said he was aware that some people had even informed TB Joshua through emails, phone calls and reports that he was purporting to represent him.

“I am aware that many lies have been peddled about me in and around Zimbabwe and beyond the borders. I wish to state that I have never claimed to be one appointed to run a branch of the Scoan in Zimbabwe, neither have I ever claimed to be a representative of Scoan, Prophet TB Joshua or any of the wisemen. I am simply John Chibwe seeking the face of God and thus not leaning on the goodwill of man,” he said.

“The Lord allowed us to use the name The DiVineyard. This was aimed at addressing many false reports which seek to link me to Prophet TB Joshua, The Synagogue Church of All Nations and Emmanuel TV, which were making rounds in Zimbabwe.”

Chibwe, who is based in Chiredzi but also conducts services in Harare, said he regarded himself as an ordinary person preaching the word of God and therefore could also not be referred to as a pastor.

“Whilst I am aware that many call me by many different titles, I have always advised people that titles are given by God according to the calling upon one’s life and that it’s not the titles that matter but the fruits in one’s life. As for me, until the appointed time of God, I will remain as Mr Chibwe or simply John Chibwe,” he said.

Unlike other preachers who advertised their sermons, he said: “I believe the work of God does not need advertising as His very work in our lives and in the lives of many impacted by His goodness will do the advertising. For this reason I tend to shy away from the press, billboards etc”.
