The three US-based coaches, Barry Gorman, Trevor Gorman and Gareth Elliot, were in the country for the week-long trial stint.

Mukuruva is joined by the other seven who include Tinovimba Muskwe, Irvine Machote, Rodney Chiunga, Selby Saurombe, Nyasha Munetsi, Hillary Ngani and Tichaona Chinamasa.

Friendly Academy director Richard Solobala told Standardsport the eight players had been scheduled to leave for the US in August this year but that the dates had since been moved to January next year to allow them ample time to deal with Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), as well as registering with Ncaa Eligibility Center.

“All the players have been recommended but they have to deal with SAT and Ncaa which might not be easy at all. They have to pass the entry tests which will be held at the universities that they will be recommended to, at all costs. Above all, the US coaches were impressed by the level of talent that we have here,” Solobala said.

Solobala thanked local companies for working hand in hand with junior football programmes.

“We got sponsorship from local phone dealers GTel, as well as Spar. We would like to thank them for partnering football, especially at junior level.”

GTel brand manager, Reno Glass said as GTel, they knew that the future national team would come from the juniors.

“We are here for everyone. We know very well that they are the future of our football. We partnered Friendly Academy in this cause and we hope to create more partnerships in the near future,” Glass said.
