Army side Buffaloes finally remembered how to win, collecting maximum points after beating struggling Bantu Rovers by 2-1 in a Castle Lager premiership match at Sakubva yesterday.

The home side took the lead in the 16th minute through an own goal as Bantu Rovers’ veteran midfielder, Johanes Ngodzo failed to clear a troubling delivery from Buffaloes’ Takunda Jefrey and beat his own goalkeeper.

Both teams exchanged some raids thereafter and it was Buffaloes who looked more threatening upfront but the pressure failed to produce goals with a string of missed chances.

Bantu Rovers nearly equalised in the 59th minute after the out drawn Buffaloes goalkeeper Blessing Mwandimutsira was beaten on the ball by Fortune Ncube who watched in disbelief as his effort went a few inches over the bar.

Buffaloes’ striker, Kastigu Juwakinyu finally came right in the 63rd minute scoring a beauty which he connected from Takunda’s pass. The powerful shot gave no chance to the flat footed Bantu Rovers’ goal keeper Mlalazi Nkosilati.

However Bantu Rovers scored in the 88th minute through a header from Herbert Dick who connected well a long throw from Ncube.

In Chiredzi, Kenneth Nyangani reports that Black Rhinos produced a spirited performance that saw them holding Triangle to a goalless draw in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Gibbo yesterday.

Both teams failed to create meaningful chances in the opening minutes of the match with both goalkeepers barely tested in the first half.

In the 19th minute Black Rhinos player Brian Muzondiwa shot wide inside the box. Five minutes later Triangle defender Jimmy Tigere survived a horrific infringement by the visitor’s midfielder Trust Machacha.

The host had a chance to go into second half leading but former Masvingo United player Hardlife Muvundi shot over the bar with Rhinos defence in sixes and sevens.

Triangle head coach Biggie Zuze made a tactical change bringing in former Highlanders striker Graham Ncube in the 46th minute for Muvundi but the move did not pay dividends.

In the 78th minute, substitute Blessing Sunday missed a glaring chance inside the box shooting over the bar.

With six minutes to full time, Triangle goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu pulled a clinical save to deny Nesbert Padzarondora.
