THE Young Warriors face a stern test this afternoon when they take on buoyant Young Chipolopolo in the men’s football final of the AUSC Region V Under-20 Youth Games at Barbourfields.

The Young Warriors booked a place in the finals after edging Namibia through a solitary goal by Learnmore Muyambo who fired a cracker in the 65th minute. Muyambo responded to a rebound and caught Namibian goalkeeper Donovan Gainub off guard.

Unstoppable Zambia fired four goals past Malawi with leading scorer in the tournament Patrick Ngoma notching a hat trick and the other goal coming from Patson Daka.

Ngoma scored in the 11th, 23rd and 53rd minute while Daka got his in the 51st minute.

Ngoma has scored six goals in the tournament, scoring a brace against Lesotho in the group stages, one against South Africa while Daka grabbed a hat trick in the 6-1 demolition of South Africa.

Meanwhile, Anna Bungu of Zimbabwe beat strong contingents in the 3000m women steeple chase finishing in a time of 11 minutes 07,41 seconds with teammate Convenience Chamboko coming second in 11 minutes 12,71 seconds and South Africa coming third in 12 minutes 27,69 seconds.

In the 800m T12 Lucky Chitimbe of Zimbabwe won gold in two minutes 10,16 seconds with Namibians Abraham Nilifanghiwfav in two minutes 13,86 seconds and Kaurumbuwa Sutu Katiji in two minutes 15,18 seconds.

In the men’s triple jump Brian Mada’s 15,65m leap earned Zimbabwe gold with South African team mates Teboho Molibeli 15,15m and Duwayne Boer 15,08m coming second and third respectively.

Thandeka Malinga of Zimbabwe settled for silver in the women’s high jump with a 1,62m leap with South African Martize Higgins 1,64m getting her gold and Nienka Du Toit 1,50m bronze. Zimbabwe’s 4X400m women’s relay won silver while in the 3 000m men’s steeple chase Tendai Zimuto and Moses Tarakinyu got silver and bronze respectively
