Martin Vengesayi yesterday struck a first-half brace to help Harare City overcome visiting Chicken Inn at Rufaro and recover from their Premier Soccer League (PSL) false start.

The capital city club were stunned 1-0 by PSL debutants Tsholotsho in their season opener but yesterday they buried the upset with a victory over Chicken Inn.
Vengesayi scored in the ninth minute and on the stroke of half time to seal the day for City.
He is now joint top goal-scorer with CAPS United forward Roderick Mutuma on two goals each.
“I am so happy to score the brace,” said Vengesayi.
“They were important goals we really wanted. It needs a lot of hard work and I believe if I continue putting more effort I will be high up there. I scored eight goals in all competitions last season so I just have to improve on that.

“We had to make sure of winning against Chicken Inn after the Tsholotsho game. The game plan was to be fast in attack and solid in defence and midfield. It worked well for us.”
City’s win was a huge relief for coach Taurai Mangwiro who came under heavy scrutiny following the Tsholotsho loss.
Chicken Inn concluded the last four minutes of the match with 10 men after second-half substitute David Temwanjira became the first player to be sent off this season.
The visitor’s coach Joey Antipas admitted that City were the better side of the day.
“We struggled, especially in the first half,” said Antipas.
“We did not come to grips with the pitch. I told my boys that we really needed to come back into the game but unfortunately, we failed to do that.
Harare City were very quick in attack and we failed to cope with their pace. You have to give credit to them for a good game.
“I do not know what happened on David’s red card but I know he was shown a yellow card earlier on.”
