Only 11 teams, down from 14 last year, make up the league as others failed to raise affiliation fees required.

Some of the notable absentees include Black Rhinos Queens, Auckaland Queens and Aces Academy, among others.

Confirming opening fixtures, Zimbabwe Women Football official Theresa Maguraushe revealed that they were yet to get sponsorship.

“We have not yet found sponsorship for our league yet and the board is busy trying to get sponsorship. We need to start playing because potential sponsors need to see us play and hopefully they will come by,” she said.

Last year the league was nothing short of shambolic with reports suggesting that there were no clear rules and regulations, with no single team fulfilling all 26 fixtures. Flame Lily were declared winners.

Today, defending champions Flame Lily kick off their title defence away to Cyclone at Number Five Grounds in Mbare.

Conduit Academy entertain Tenax Queens at Madhodha Stadium in Guruve, while Mucheke B Arena hosts Masvingo and Chipembere Queens of Gweru.

Yesterday New Orleans were expected to host Inline Academy and the match between Faith Drive and Mutare was postponed, while Mwenezana may have to wait a week for their first taste of action.
