TRIANGLE kept Chicken Inn in check by beating Tsholotsho at their own backyard in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at White City yesterday.

Just two points separate the two teams with log leaders Chicken Inn on 37 points while Triangle are on 35. Midseason signing Tawanda Muyendi bagged a brace in the first and 22nd minutes to ensure that his side remained within reach of the log leaders.

Hillary Bakacheza took advantage of Tsholotsho’s Danisa Phiri’s failure to clear in the first minute and sent the ball to Muyendi who made no mistake in beating goalkeeper Chang Mariyoni in goals for Tsholotsho.

Muyendi rose to the occasion again in the 22nd minute when he connected from a freekick taken by goalkeeper Ashley Reyners to score following a foul by Lynoth Chikuhwa on Ephraim Mwinga.

In another match in Bulawayo, Chicken Inn kept their clean sheet at Luveve to maintain their stranglehold at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log standings when they dispatched visiting Chapungu yesterday.

Michelle Katsvairo and Bhekimpilo Ncube scored in the 34th and 60th minute respectively to push the GameCocks to 37 points from 18 matches, with Triangle chasing after they also grabbed vital three points away from home after beating Tsholotsho FC 2-0 at White City.

Triangle are now on 35 points.

Chicken Inn skipper Danny “Deco” Phiri’s tricky free kick in the 34th minute was spilled by Chapungu goalkeeper Roy Mazingi before an alert Katsvairo pounced on the ball with a clinical finish inside the penalty box. Edmore Chirambadare then set up Ncube in the 60th minute and the dreadlocked Chicken Inn midfielder took on one defender before letting off a thunderbolt which caught Mazingi off-guard.
