Theatre and musical treats galore Reps Theatre will from September 9 to 19 show the play, An Inspector Calls, a famous JB Priestley murder mystery play. It is also the current O’ Level set book. The play is directed by Anne Fischer. Tickets cost $7 for students and $10 for non-students. Performances start at 7pm and there is a 2:30pm show on September 19.

On September 24 to 26 and October 1 to 3, enjoy a comedy play by Elinor Kennedy, titled Where There’s a Will at Reps Theatre again. It starts at 7pm and there will be 2pm shows on Saturdays.

For keen choristers, Marden Singers rehearsals for Handel’s Messiah begin September 23 at 5:30 pm at Arundel School Chapel. This long-established choir has performed this wonderful work before Christmas annually for over four decades. Participating as a chorister is an amazing priviledge. The choir welcomes extra singers for this event. Performances are on November14 and 15.

On September 11, enjoy Rockin’ Harare at Borrowdale Race Course from 6pm to 1am the following day. The show features famous South African rock group Prime Circle, fresh from their European tour and lots of local talent, including Evicted, Macy Huber and Daniel Jenkins with Cynergy.

The following day, there will be Summer Night Concert featuring Cito and friends. Pack picnic baskets, blankets or chairs and enjoy music under the stars with award-winning rock and musical theatre singer Cito, lead singer with Wonderboom. He will be joined by local talent, including Molly Dzangare, Adiona Chidzonga, Billy St John and the Peterhouse Choir, with dance by Bibi Eastwood and guest, from Dance Trust of Zimbabwe’s National Ballet. This is a perfect family outing at Borrowdale Race Course which starts at 6pm to 9pm. Advance tickets for both events are available at Sound Event Management in Avondale.

The annual Combined Senior Schools Concert takes place on September 17 at 6:30pm at Celebration Centre. Always a fantastic treat with top-notch performances by talented youth. It features full orchestra, wind band, big band, pipe band, marimbas and choirs. Tickets must be bought in advance from participating senior schools in Harare.

Another musical delight is a concert of art songs and operetta presented by Lorna Kelly Studio at the Arundel School chapel on September 19 at 3pm. It features an ensemble of three talented local tenors.

September 23 to 27 brings the annual treat for lovers of all kinds of dance — Starlight Dancing under the stars, hosted by Dance Trust of Zimbabwe’s National Ballet in the Ballet Centre garden nightly at 6.30pm. Bring chairs and picnics and enjoy a feast of dance entertainment.

Fun outdoor and sports events The Festival of Speed at Donnybrook is on today. Take the family for an action-packed day of motor sport, with four of South Africa’s top Drifting Professionals demonstrating feats through the day, plus circuit racing, drag racing, burnouts, auto stalls and public karting. Children aged 12 and below are free of charge but adults pay $10. Also diarise the Annual Motor Show on September 11 and 12.

On September 12 is the Hayhill Craft Fair from 9am to 3pm, at 300 Enterprise Road and the Christon Bank Family Fun Day at Thetford Game Park, which includes Fun Run-Walk-MTB routes. The annual Rooneys Extreme 15 and High 5 Fun Run takes place on September 13. It starts from Borrowdale Country Club and registration is on the same day at 6am or at Old Georgians a day before from 5.30pm.

The Head to Rhino and Elephant Awareness Day, fundraiser for Aware Trust will be held at Old Georgians on September 13. This includes a Fun Walk/Run at 9am. Lots of entertainment, food and drink. It is a lovely family day out. The annual cycle ride to raise funds for Borradaile Hospital in Marondera also takes place on September 13, with a 45km ride and 5km Fun Run/Walk in Imire Game Park in Wedza. Registration opens at 6am at Imire Dam. There will also be a 70km ultra ride for teams of two from Imire to Hwedza Mountain and back. Registration is done at Hwedza GMB at 7am. Come and braai at the dam, make a weekend of it and camp for $10 per person, day visitors also welcome at no charge.
