The President is now set to open the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament on Tuesday where he will set a new legislative agenda.

Kuwadzana East legislator Nelson Chamisa (MDCT)moved a motion in the National Assembly, seeking that the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda requests Mugabe to come to Parliament to take questions from MPs emanating from his recent State of the Nation Address (Sona) delivered last month.

Mudenda promised to take up the request Senate president Edna Madzongwe and the Office of the President in a bid to get Mugabe to appear before the House for a question and answer session. But Mudenda on Friday told The Standard that his office was yet to finalise the matter with the President’s Office.

“We are yet to agree on that matter. It’s still work in progress,” Mudenda said beforehanging up his phone.

MDC-T chief whip, Innocent Gonese, however, said his party would continue to push for Mugabe to come back and respond to questions on his address, as well as other matters that are affecting the country.

“It’s not a closed chapter for us because our request is constitutionally supported. But knowing Mugabe and how he hates being held accountable, we can only hope that he will come and take our questions.

However, from his history, it is difficult to believe he will do that,” Gonese said.

According to the Constitution, Mugabe has to deliver a Sona at least once every year. Mugabe had, however, not done so since December 4 2007.
