It was an afternoon that mid-season recruit Tawanda Muyendi scored a brace as the Chiredzi-based side recorded a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Tsholotsho at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

Seven matches on, Kelvin Kaindu’s charges are still searching for their next set of maximum points and a date with Harare giants CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium today could mean more misery for the Sugarcane Boys.

Thanks to his blistering start to the season, Kaindu’s job seems to be safe for now, but it boggles the mind how a team that was easily the best in the entire first half of the season could suddenly switch off and forget how to win a football match.

CAPS United, on the other hand, could move into the top-four on the log standings should they manage to brush aside the challenge by the out-of-sorts visitors in the only fixture of the weekend.

Ever since Lloyd Chitembwe took over as interim coach from Mark Mathe at the beginning of September, the Green Machine have made steady progress in the league as they now occupy seventh position, having amassed a total of 37 points to date.

Chitembwe has lost only once, away to ZPC Kariba in his last outing. He won twice and drew once since he returned to the Green Machine.

Only a single point separates the two teams as Triangle occupy fourth position on 38 points, tied with Hwange, but enjoying a far more superior goal difference.

With midfielders Brian Juwayeyi and Tichaona Chipunza missing from the match day line-up due to injury and suspension respectively, a defeat for Kaindu’s men will see them slump to fifth position, putting them in danger of missing out on a top-four finish.

Having lost four of their last seven matches, it is heartening for the visitors to note that they have not lost a single away match since a 3-2 loss to FC Platinum on May 17.

In fact, their form away from home has been superb.

CAPS United are currently sweating on the availability of defender Justice Jangano and striker Leonard Tsipa who all need to pass late fitness tests to ensure they deploy their best 11 against Triangle

Skipper Moses Muchenje has been ruled out of the encounter owing to an injury.
