Substitute Zivanai Mhanda scored an injury time volley to condemn the army side to the world of unfashionable Division One.

Buffaloes will join prison wardens WhaWha, Flame Lily and Dongo Sawmills in the lower rung. This leaves Mutare fans with no option, but to pin their hopes on Mutare City Rovers, who are locked in a fierce battle for Premiership promotion against Masvingo United and Hartley.

With two games remaining before the season comes to an end, Rovers are leading the log standings with a point to second-placed Masvingo United and third-placed Hartley.

Rovers take on Hartley today in a top-of-the-table clash at Sakubva Stadium. Dejected Buffaloes head coach Saul Chaminuka said he was staying at Buffaloes as he believes that he needs to build a new team with quality and depth. His opposite counterpart, Tonderai Ndiraya said they scored a gifted goal and was happy to end the season on a high note.

In Gweru Mukudzei Chingwere reports that fellow army side Chapungu and How Mine shared spoils in their last league match at Ascot Stadium yesterday. The hosts came into the match needing maximum points to increase their chances of making it among the top half teams in the league.

The stalemate means the hosts are on the same number of points with eighth-placed Harare City, but they miss out because of an inferior goal difference.

Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino was, however, happy with his team’s overall performance.

“We started the season badly, but we picked up later and did very well. I am happy with our overall season performance,” said Nyikadzino.

Jeremiah Makota, who assumed the reins at How Mine after the departure of Luke Masomere, said they did not have the type of season he had wished for.
