He has even re-christened his music Musambo Weshuga.

“I will stay here for as long as it takes. The town has generally been good to me and I am making a living here,” he said.

“Things were not been rosy for me when I was in Harare and this time around I will live here as long as it takes.”

The musician said Chiredzi residents appreciated his music more.

“Life in Harare is fast and one has to work extra hard to be recognised. Here, I am a celebrity and most people pay to watch my shows. It is also near Mozambique where my music is on demand,” Sugar Sugar said.

The hoarse-voiced singer said his band was still intact.

“I still front Samaita Express and now the band consists of 10 members,” he said.

Sugar Sugar had literally been living on well-wishers after his career took a knock due to differences with recording labels.

The musician blamed local recording companies for his woes.

“ZMC made my life difficult, in the absence of live shows, royalties should look after the welfare of artistes, but the last time I went there I was told by those in the accounts department that there was no money,” he said.

“The other time they made me sit and wait for hours, but I went home empty-handed.”

The Mirosi singer, who shed tears as he narrated his ordeal, said he has been having problems with the recording company and at one time, they failed to release his albums on time.

“I used to work with them well, but problems started after they failed to release my albums on time and I had proposed for them to shoot videos for my songs, but they failed,” said the musician.

Sugar Sugar seems to have a knack for controversy. Sometime in 2013, he fought with Last Power Recording Studios, which he also accused of not honouring their promises.

The Juliana hitmaker made his breakthrough in the music industry in 2003, with his album titled Zvirimukati, which carries songs like Pandaironga, Yofamba Famba, Samaita and Juliana.
