Israel Moyo was reportedly shown the door by chief executive officer John Brown Ncube early this month after he allegedly produced a damning audit of the council.

Ncube allegedly summoned Moyo to a hearing on September 23 last year, which was followed by another one on November 19, that recommended that the auditor must be suspended.

On December 18, another hearing was convened and resolved that Moyo should be shown the door. Moyo’s dismissal letter was dated January 11 2016 and was signed by acting administrator and human resources officer Sifiso Dube.

The report that got the auditor into trouble alleges that Ncube paid himself an advance salary of $9 000 in 2013, an amount which was equivalent to his four months’ salary.

Ncube also allegedly claimed double-allowances after attending a council event and authorised payments for the council’s former employees.

Moyo’s report also alleges that the council boss allocated himself $1 500 towards his airtime allowance instead of his monthly allocation of $350.

The fired auditor told The Standard that Ncube had a personal vendetta against him.

“Ncube called a hearing meeting without my knowledge and resolved that I be fired for performing my job expeditiously,” said Moyo.

“I always wrote reports about bad governance of council funds and encouraged the council to remit tax to Zimra [Zimbabwe Revenue Authority] but instead of adhering to my request, Ncube fired me.”

“At one time Ncube was summoned to an audit committee meeting to answer some issues and failed to attend saying he was being attended to by a doctor. On his return he did not approve of the meeting

“He does not want Figtree villagers to be put on the Bulilima housing waiting list and this retards development.”

Bulilima district administrator Ethel Moyo said she was yet to be briefed about the report and Moyo’s case.

“I was on leave and I am yet to be informed about what I am hearing, ” Moyo said.

Ncube refused to comment on the matter.
