MASVINGO United’s hopes for yet another dance in the Premier Soccer League suffered a double blow when the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) ordered them to pay a staggering $4 000 for their case against newly-promoted Eastern Region champions Mutare City to be heard.

In a letter dated January 20, directed to Eastern Region administrator Tedious Machawira and copied to Zifa lawyer Ralph Maganga and Eastern Region board member finance Davison Muchena, the national association through Machawira advised Una Una to make the payment of $4 000 before the statuses of Dylan Chivandire and Tafadzwa Mkahlera could be determined.

“May you kindly advise Masvingo United to make payment of $4 000 in respect of players Dylan Chivandire and Tafadzwa Mkahlera not later than January 25, 2016,” wrote Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze.

The letter stated that should the club fail to make the payment within the stipulated dates, the association would come up with a determination with recommendations from the Player Status Committee.

Masvingo United are alleging that Mutare City improperly registered the duo of Chivandire and Mkahlera.

They argue that Mkahlera was registered for the entire 2015 as a Masvingo United player and also that they are convinced that Chivandire did not have an International Reverse Clearance certificate since he played in the Mascom League in Botswana in 2014.

Masvingo United secretary-general Collen Maboke said the amount was outrageous and they had sent a request to the national association for clarification while they run around to raise some money.

“The amount is outrageous and we have sent our request to the national association for clarification. We feel we cannot be made to pay for justice” he said.

However, it remains to be seen if Masvingo United will raise such an amount at such short notice. The club still owes the region another $2 500.
