Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions has refuted claims by Zimbabwean promoter Smart Ndlovu of Testimony Entertainment Promotions who accused them of swindling him of 6 000 pounds in a botched Ireland gig for South African songbird Rebecca Malope.

Below is a response from Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions following a story that was published in The Standard Style last week

Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions would like to thank Rebecca Malope, the band, media house, fans and everybody who made this event a huge success.

Rebecca Malope delivered to the highest standard and left her fans asking for more. We really appreciate all the love and support you have shown her, we know people travelled from far and near to come and see the Queen of SA Gospel Music.

Indeed dreams came true for many. Thanks to Rainbow. As Rainbow, we are humbled by such support and love that our followers have shown to us.

For the past four years we have seen Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions grow from hosting events that were attended by 10 people and we have seen in the past events numbers going up to a 1 000.

This record on its own tells of the story that many in business will understand that it is about integrity, patience, dedication and consistency.

As a business, what we promised to our fans we have delivered, no matter the numbers that would have come to the events. As Rainbow we have hosted big names including Pastor Solly Mahlangu, Deborah Fraser, Derrick Ndzimande, Francs Dlamini, Lundi Tyamara, Mathias Mhere, Mkhululi Bhebhe, Jessie Priestly, Omega Khunou, Neyi Zimu and just recently the queen of South African gospel music — Rebecca Malope.

In England we have given platform to many local acts that are now more noticed and hired for several functions in the country. We are pleased and thankful to God for this achievement. It has been hard work and as a team, we have been able to deliver as we have promised.

Such success will always attract negativity but we are so glad that our record speaks for itself. It saddens us as a company when we read stories in the papers that we have “duped” someone of their finances in order to meet our costs.

We would like to be clear that we are not “crooks”, nor at any point have we taken money from the alleged individual in Ireland to fund our project. We as a business do understand and respect the terms of the contract.

We understand the principles of offer and acceptance in contract law. All these allegations laid against Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions are not true.

We have always kept records of all transactions and communications so that in future we have evidence in case such disputes arise. The individual making these allegation entered into a contract and failed to meet the terms of the contract and is continuing to do so as the contract states that such matters should not be disclosed to a third party.

We have made it clear that we are more than happy to meet in court to settle the dispute not on Facebook or in newspapers. Above all, the extreme case was when he failed to produce the necessary documentation that would have allowed our artist to perform legally in Ireland.

Time and again we requested for those documents and he failed to provide them. As much as we have heard what people were saying to us, even the very alleged individual making these accusations we could not rely on “hearsay” but we insisted on an authoritative document, i.e. a letter from a government department in this case from the Immigration Department.

This we asked for in time so that we protect the artist and to ensure that we were compliant to the laws of the country. We asked for these documents early in April and we were promised that soon we would get them but at the end that did not happen.

As in regards to the £6 000 he alleges he gave to me, I am more than happy to correct the gentleman.

The money he paid us to date is £4 290,89, which might be equivalent to €6 000, not £6 000. He might need to consult his MoneyGram receipts so that he learns to issue accurate information, not mislead the press and public by reporting half-baked or inaccurate stories.

Furthermore, it will be helpful for him to revisit the contract and review it in case he is not aware that it is a binding document under law. Contracts do bind and in all our dealings with this individual, we kept reminding him about the terms of the contract.

We would like to make it clear again that we did not dupe “him” nor was he drugged to enter into this contract. Furthermore, we had nothing to do with the Ireland concert as from day one we marketed our own show in England and he was fully responsible for what happened in Ireland.

We never sold anyone the Ireland tickets or collected any money from Ireland for our personal use, never. The individual breached the contract and as a result, there was nothing we could do.

We are sorry that at the end things turned this way. We tried our best to work with this individual to ensure that we reached a mutual agreement but it remained clear to us that we were dealing with someone whose motive was not honest.

Rainbow Entertainment and Promotions has a duty to protect its artists, interests and company reputation of which we have worked hard for and invested in.

We are not a fly by night promotions company; we abide by the laws of the country and work hard to deliver what we promise. We have worked very hard to be where we are and the last concert held in Birmingham on May 7, told the full story of what hard work breeds.
