Çaykur Rizespor became the latest Turkish club to be linked with Nhamoinesu last week, with their coach Hikmet Karaman reportedly saying he had prioritised the signature of the highly-rated Zimbabwean defender ahead of the start of the new season.

But Nhamoinesu, whose contract with Sparta Prague was due to expire at the end of this month, agreed a new deal to stay put at the 33-time Czech champions. “Good news from Letná! Costa signed a contract extension with Sparta, making his contract valid through the 2018-2019 season,” announced Sparta Prague on their official website.

“Costa’s previous contract was valid until the end of the last season. However, Costa started training with Sparta during the negotiations and finally signed the new contract in the first week of pre-season. Costa’s new contract is valid till 30/6/2019.”

Nhamoinesu also confirmed his contract extension on social media, while paying tribute to his agent Jakob Slowisk.

“Thank you @JakobSlowisk the best agent! Thank you @ACSparta_CZ for [the] new contract. #acsparta #OneFamily,” he tweeted.

The sure-footed defender, who helped Zimbabwe qualify for their first Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 10 years, moved to the Czech Republic three years ago from Poland, where he had spent five years at lower division clubs KS Wisla Ustronianka and Zaglebie Lubie.

However, it was at Zaglebie Lubie where he established himself as one of the best defenders in the Polish domestic league, making 136 appearances and scoring six goals, leading to the move to Sparta Prague.

Since then, Nhamoinesu has impressed many observers with his solid performances for Sparta Prague, both in the Czech Republic where they have been very successful, and in Europe.
